Occupational Workplace Assessment: Retaining good staff is always a challenge and when a valued member of staff suffers an illness or injury that affects their continuing in work, the challenge can seem immense. You want to do the best for people in that position and you also want to protect the investment in training, development and experience that you have made in the person. Knowing what will suit them best and what to do to re-employ them – changing the physical nature of the job; retraining them; or giving them different responsibilities – is not straightforward.  It requires a rigorous approach in assessing the current situation and expertise in relation to the world of work to know what is the best fit for organisation and individual.

The Peter Charles Solutions Occupational Workplace Assessment service is designed to help both the organisation and the person themselves identify what is best suited to their needs and to assess what support (if any) will be needed in returning them to their job or taking up a new role. The service has two elements:

a) Occupational Assessment Report; This involves assessment of work capability using a range of standardised psychometric and other exercises and an interview with a Chartered Occupational Psychologist. From this the most appropriate options for work and the steps needed to return to work are discussed and reviewed.

b) Bridging to Work; The second element is more extensive in scope and is aimed at supporting both the individual and the organisation in the process of re-entry into work. This might involve a number of things including:  Further counselling work with the person,  Advice to the organisation about restructuring a role to suit the individual,  Identifying specialist training or other services to prepare the person for a specific role.
